Upgrading Questions:

1. How can I upgrade from TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 to TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5?

   Before you can upgrade to TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5, your license for TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 must be registered in your TMPGEnc User Account. If you do not have a TMPGEnc User Account, you can create one and register your license serial number at the same time by going to the User Account Portal and clicking on the "Create Account" button. You will be able to register your license serial number during the account creation process.
   
   If you already have a TMPGEnc User Account, simply log in to your account and click on the "Register Product" button to register your license serial number. If you've already registered your TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 license serial number, you can skip these steps.
   
   To upgrade from TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 to TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5, go to the taw5 shopping page and click on the Upgrade & User Discounts tab.
   
   
   You should see a chart with three options. The first and third columns are the Upgrade and Free Upgrade options respectively. To upgrade, click on the "Add to Cart" button of the upgrade option that is right for you.
   
   You will then see the following screen in a new window:
   
   Here you will have to login with your TMPGEnc User Account details. This lets our system check to make sure you are eligible for the upgrade.
   
   You will then be asked to type in your TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 license serial number:
   
   
   Once you have typed in your license serial number, and our system confirms that you are eligible for the upgrade, TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 will be added to your cart and you can complete your purchase.
   
   Important note: You will no longer be able to use TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 after you upgrade. Once you upgrade, your license for TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 will be terminated and you will not be able to get it back. Please download the trial version of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 and make sure it is right for you before upgrading.

2. Am I eligible for the Free Upgrade option?

   Please read the following limitations to the offer to see if you are eligible. We cannot make exceptions.
   -TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 (English version) must be purchased or registered between February 24, 2012, 12:00AM and April 30, 2012, 11:59PM PST.
   -The upgrade, user discount or bundled versions of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 are eligible.
   -Purchases from online stores other than the TMPGEnc Online Store are eligible.
   -This is a limited time offer. The free upgrade must be claimed no later than September 30, 2012, 11:59PM PST. After that time, the free upgrade offer will be over and you will not be able to upgrade for free, even if you purchased or registered TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 in the proper time frame mentioned above.
   -The TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 license serial number must be registered in your TMPGEnc User Account in order to claim the free upgrade.
   -Terms of this offer subject to change without notice.
   
   As with all upgrades, your license for the older product (TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 in this case) will be terminated once you complete the upgrade process. This cannot be reversed. If you want to continue using the older product, please purchase using the User Discount option.

3. Can I still use the Upgrade option if I bought TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 as part of a bundle, with a User Discount, or as an Upgrade from TMPGEnc DVD Author 3?

   Yes, you can take advantage of the Upgrade option; it does not matter if it's an upgrade, a user discount, or a bundled version.

4. Is it possible to get the upgrade using a non-English version of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4?

   Yes, it is now possible to upgrade to the English (EN) version of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 from the Spanish (ES) version of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.
   However, German (DE) users of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 must upgrade to the German version of TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5.

5. If I upgrade can I keep using my TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 serial number?

   No, your license for TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 will be terminated and you will no longer be able to use the program. If you wish to continue using TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4, then choose the "User Discount" option.

6. Do I have to have TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 installed in order to upgrade to TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5?

   No, the TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 installer is stand-alone software and installs without the need of having TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 installed on your machine.

7. When I tried to upgrade, I got an error. When I tried again, the Webstore tells me my license has already been upgraded. Why?

   It is possible the "Upgrade" product is still in your cart. In such cases, close and exit all of your web browser windows, restart, and try to purchase your upgrade again.

1. What does TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 do?

   In a nutshell, TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 allows you to take practically any video clip and create standard-compliant DVD, Blu-ray, or AVCHD files from them. Combined with the ability to create interactive menus and burn to DVD or Blu-ray Disc media, you can create your own DVDs and Blu-ray Discs that you can play on standard DVD and Blu-ray players. 2. What is the difference between TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 and TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5?

   The two products sound similar in name, so they can be easily confused. TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 basically creates DVD/Blu-ray/AVCHD files and discs from your source video files - it can convert to DVD-Video/Blu-ray Disc/AVCHD standard compliant MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC and it can also burn those files to DVD and Blu-ray Disc media. It can also create interactive menus and has options for multiple subtitle and audio streams among other things.
   TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 is basically video conversion software. It can convert your source video files to many, many different types of output files, each of which are highly customizable. It can also output standard-compliant DVD-Video/Blu-ray Disc/AVCHD files, but unlike TAW5, it cannot create interactive menus or burn to DVD or Blu-ray Disc media. Also, it cannot create multiple subtitle and audio streams like TAW5 can. However, it does have many features not found in TAW5 such as the ability to apply filters to enhance or correct video and audio, a timeline editing mode, and more. 1. I bought the TMPGEnc Movie Plug-in SpursEngine for TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5/MovieStyle/4.0 XPress, can I use it with TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5?

   Yes, but you will need to download a version specifically for TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 (TAW5). To do this, your SpursEngine Plug-in license serial number must be registered in your TMPGEnc User Account. Once it is registered, simply login and the plug-in for TAW5 will be available to download in your registered products list. You do not need to purchase the plug-in again.

1. Is Smart Rendering possible?

   Yes, TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 supports Smart Rendering for MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC video that is compliant with DVD-Video, Blu-ray Disc, and AVCHD standards. Smart Rendering is the ability to only re-encode cut-edited parts of the source, leaving the other data untouched, also known as "lossless editing".

   Yes, TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 is specifically for creating your own DVD-Video, Blu-ray Disc, and AVCHD projects. This includes editing your video files, creating your own interactive menu, outputting it to a standard-compliant file, and burning it to a media disc which can be played on a compatible player.

2. Can this product burn to DVD and Blu-ray Disc media?

   Yes. Upon output of your project, you have the option to burn it to DVD-Video or Blu-ray Disc depending on your project type. Also included is a Disc Writing Tool which allows you to burn files on your hard drive to media at any time you choose. If you have a DVD-Video or Blu-ray Disc file structure contained on your hard drive, you can burn the files to create a DVD and Blu-ray disc respectively. DVD-Video ISO files are also supported, allowing you to easily create a DVD by burning the ISO file. You can even create an ISO file from DVD-Video standard compliant VIDEO-TS and AUDIO-TS folders or other files on your hard drive.
