TMPGEnc DVD Author 3: Where's That Chaptering Tool?

A question that comes up often from TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 users is "Where's the Chaptering Tool?" Today, we'll show you where it is and how to access it. The Chaptering Tool allows you to easily create chapters in your video clips without going through the footage and manually creating each individual chapter. Use the tool to create chapters at specific points, at specific time intervals, or simply set the number of chapters you want and the tool will do the rest.

Changes From TMPGEnc DVD Author 2

If you've used TMPGEnc DVD Author 2, then you know that the Chaptering Tool (or, Fast Chaptering, as it was called then) had its own dedicated button within the "Edit Clip" window. However, in TMPGEnc DVD Author 3, this button is no where to be found.

Fear not! The tool still exists and has not been discontinued as some people have erroneously concluded! It is merely in an ever-so-slightly different place within the Edit Clip window.

Accessing The Chaptering Tool

In the Source Stage of TMPGEnc DVD Author 3, access a clip's Clip Editor window by clicking on the "Edit" button for that clip. You can also access the Clip Editor window when you add a clip. Clicking on the "Cut-edit" tab will display a clip preview pane and cut-editing tools.

You can then access the Chaptering Tool by simply clicking on the Edit Menu button in the lower right corner of the window. This will open the Edit Menu...

...where you can select "Chaptering Tool" which will then open up the Chaptering Tool window, giving you all the great chaptering tools that were in DVD Author 2. You can also simply use the keyboard shortcut, "Ctrl+k" and completely bypass going through the Edit Menu.
